Intro to Golf Class Ages 7 –14

Boys and Girls.

Saturday,  July 26 11:45– 2:45pm  Meet the van at Parks and Recreation to take this class with the golfing staff at Kiln Creek Golf Course. During the class you’ll get fitted for clubs, learn the basics from the driving range, how to chip and putt and other basics of the game. Take this intro session to see if you want to take up the game of golf. Be sure to bring a water bottle, and clubs if you have them. Cost is $30 per child and includes transportation and club usage. Min is 6. Max is 12. Deadline to register is July 18, 2008.

 

Fencing Classes  Open to kids 10 and up!

Beginners: Learn the basics of fencing from proper stance to basic defense and offensive moves, to scoring points and proper protocols of the sport. Fencing is one of the best sports to teach hand and eye coordination as well as balance and timing.  Sundays starting July 13  through September 21.  No class Labor Day Weekend.

Class meets 5-6 pm each Sunday at Poquoson Primary School;  however, first class July 13, will be from 4-6 pm  due to equipment fitting. Please bring $110 to first class to cover personal equipment purchase. Women’s fee will be an additional $20 to cover needed chest protector– we will order that for you as well.) The instructor will order each students’ equipment to include proper jacket, foil (fencing sword), mask, and glove. Cost of class is $57 for all  10 sessions. + equipment fee $110. Instructor: Vicki Hanes.   Must have a minimum of  4 participants. Must pre-register  by July 8 at Poquoson Parks &  Recreation.   Fall classes will begin for beginners September 28th.

 

 

 

Kickstart Soccer

4 year old players co-ed

Must be age 4 by December 31, 2008

Kickstart is a program designed for the soccer beginner. This is the basic introduction to the game of soccer. It is not a soccer league, but a 4 week instruction and play period for 45 minutes each week. Players will work within preschool fun to learn colors, numbers and playing games while teaching basic soccer skills.

Cost is $34.00 per child. No sibling discount; additional $10.00 for non-residents. Registration is taken on a first come first served basis. One session is planned, and an additional session will be expanded if necessary. 4 Saturdays: September 20, 27, October 4, 11, from 11:00-11:45am.  Deadline to register is September 4. Cost includes beginner ball and t-shirt. Program location is at Phillips Park soccer fields in front of Poquoson High School.  Note: 11-12 session is open to first 20 registrants.

 

 

 

 

Youth Self Defense: Power Katz Program

Self Defense Classes for Boys and Girls ages 5-15

 Join this fun self defense course that teaches no bullying tactics, teaches kids proper techniques to defend oneself, along with working  on balance,

flexibility and physical development for coordination. Classes are 55 minutes in length and run on Monday nights, based on experience and age:     

 5-8 years of age 5 pm     9-12 years of age 6 pm   13-15 years of age 7 pm                

Poquoson Elementary Gym

 Initial Registration fee is $6.   Every class you attend is only $6. 

Pay as you attend class. 

All classes at Poquoson Elementary Gym

No uniform required. Program is progressive, and emphasizes Safety, Self Respect,

Discipline, and Confidence and Character.

Wings, Strings and Flying Things

Youth ages 8 and up

Join us for this interactive class, that will get your motor running for everything that flies. In this class we’ll explore gliders, winged planes, and even make a variety of flying objects to understand the laws of aerodynamics. Class is $15 includes all supplies and instruction. Class is two afternoons   in length, 1:30-3:30pm at Poquoson Municipal Building July 30 and August 1.

Must register by  July 24. Class Minimum is 6. Max is 15. 

 

Cook with Kids:

Fun with Chocolate

Ages 8-12

Lots of products and tasty samples to take home. Paint your products with edible chocolate. Make bonbons, and dipped strawberries, and work with foods such as oreos, pretzels and marshmallows to make lots of goodies.

Location: Poquoson Municipal Building

Class is available two times this summer!

Each Class is $20.00

Dressed up chocolate!

We’re making fruit look it’s best by dipping it into chocolate!  We will be making Chocolate dipped fruit, such as strawberries, bananas, grapes, make some chocolate clusters and other goodies as well!  Class will be held on August 7th 2-4pm. Last day to register is August 1st. Each class must have at least 8  participants. Max is 15. 

 

Mommy and Me Garland Dancing

Ages 3 to 5 with Mommy!

This is a graceful and colorful dance that is set to Celtic music, perfect for mothers and daughters to learn together.   Come and learn easy folk dancing patterns, while enjoying a centuries old tradition.  This is a six week class, every Thursday beginning July 31st and ending September 4th.  Classes will be held at the Municipal Building from 5-6pm. No class night of August 14. Cost for this class is $48.00 and a minimum of 6 pairs.  Last day to register for this class is July 25th.

 

A Seussical Week!

Ages 2 to 4 year olds

Who’s a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, and More from the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Spend this week designed for pre-schoolers  as we enjoy a book a day in conjunction with arts and crafts to  tell the story and the rhyming fun of Dr. Seuss. Held at the Poquoson Library from August 11th through August 15th from 11a.m. to 12 noon.  Cost is $25.00 per child and includes all materials and a small snack each day.  Minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8; last day to register is August 6th
