Fencing Classes
Beginners: Learn the basics of fencing from proper stance to basic defense and offensive moves, to scoring points and proper protocols of the sport. Fencing is one of the best sports to teach hand and eye coordination as well as balance and timing. Sundays starting July 13 through September 21. No class Labor Day Weekend.
Class meets 5-6 pm each Sunday at Poquoson Primary School; however, first class July 13, will be from 4-6 pm due to equipment fitting. Please bring $110 to first class to cover personal equipment purchase. Women’s fee will be an additional $20 to cover needed chest protector– we will order that for you as well.) The instructor will order each students’ equipment to include proper jacket, foil (fencing sword), mask, and glove. Cost of class is $57 for all 10 sessions. + equipment fee $110. Instructor: Vicki Hanes. Must have a minimum of 4 participants. Must pre-register by July 8 at Poquoson Parks & Recreation. Fall classes will begin for beginners September 28th.
Intermediate Fencing Class: This class is for those who have successfully completed the beginners class or can demonstrate suitable basic proficiency to the instructor.* In addition to continuing to hone their basic skills, fencers will learn more complex footwork and bladework as well as how to utilize these effectively in a bout. General fencing rules will also be covered, as will referee hand signals. *Email coach@iwfc.net to arrange a skills evaluation.

Yoga-Pilates Infused
Core Balance & Flexibility
Reach your body’s maximum potential with this combination class of Yoga and Pilates. This whole body workout will help you get desired results in areas that are hard to reach. This 7 week class meets every Tuesday at the Poquoson Primary School gym from 7:45-8:45 p.m. beginning July 8th and ending August 19th. Cost $65.00 per student and there is a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15. Registration deadline is June 30th.

Flex Appeal Fitness
Build your abdominals while strengthening and lengthening your body? By using strengthening techniques you will build up your mid-section and body strength. This 7 week class meets every Tuesday at Poquoson Primary School gym from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. beginning July 8th and ending August 19th. Cost of this class is $65.00 per student and there is a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15. Registration deadline is June 30th . Instructor is Linda Coolican
Soap Making Class
Learn to make soap. Learn the steps and process to making soap. Lots of hands on experience as you choose your own scents and colors for each bar that you make. Workshop will be held at the Poquoson Municipal Building on August 22nd & August 23rd from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. (Must attend both days as we will allow for drying and set up time.)
Cost is $30.00 per person and includes all materials. There is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 for the class.
The last day to register is August 15th.
Class not recommended for anyone younger than 12 years old.

Personalize your own Scrub
Ages 12 and up. Spas always have the right scrubs and masks to make your skin soft! Well now you can make your own natural scrubs with this workshop. Here you will learn how to make your own bath salts, foot scrubs, body scrub and facial mask! Come to the Municipal Building on August 3rd from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Cost of this class is $25.00 per person and includes all materials used in the class. There is a minimum of 5 for this class.
Drawing for the
Absolute Beginner
Most people would
love to be able to draw! Drawing is the key to most art practices and it is
extremely rewarding in its own right. As with any learned skill it takes
practice to become an expert, but it is vital you set about it in the right way
from the absolute beginning.
Learn how to see the world in a special way, the way an artist sees it. During
the course, you will partake in a range of exercises to teach basic drawing.
There will be a mixture of group and individual instruction. The studio
atmosphere of working in a group makes the course supportive, friendly and fun!
Learn how to see things as an artist, basic drawing techniques, what drawing
tools/materials are available and how to use them, basic shading/shadowing,
layout, value, lines, contour, perspective, proportion, and grid drawing.
Class Times: Class meets 4 times.
Wednesday and Fridays 6:30-8:30 pm at the Municipal Building.
Session I : July 9, 11, 16 and 18 or Session II : August 6, 8, 13, and 15

Class minimum is 3. Cost of class instruction only is $40. You purchase supplies on your own, list provided at registration.
Basic supplies for students: #2 pencils, drawing pad 14”x 17”, ruler and eraser.
Class Instructor is Bryan Lopatic, Local airbrush and sketch artist. Bryan also works as a professional graphic designer for the US Air Force, and drew this
summer’s cover for this booklet.

Swing Dance Classes
Great for all ages.
Do you have a special event coming up and you would like to learn new dance steps? Would you like to jazz up your dance routine? Would you like to get a little exercise, while having fun with your partner? Come and enjoy this fun nostalgic dance! Learn the basics of Swing Dancing, with easy-to-do-turns. Elements of the Lindy and Charleston will be introduced. Wear comfortable, leather soled shoes; no flip flops or sandals. Ladies are encouraged to wear flowing skirts! This is a six week class, every Thursday beginning June 19th and ending July 31st, there is no class July 3rd due to the holiday. Cost is $50.00 per person and $90.00 per couple. Classes will be held at the Poquoson Middle School cafeteria from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is a minimum of 6 singles or three couples to have the class. Last day to register for the class is June 13th. So hurry and register before this opportunity “swings” out of your hands.
Instructor is Rebecca Suerdieck, trained instructor thru the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, and instructor for the Williamsburg Swings Group.
Line Dancing
Line Dancing– No partner needed! Plenty of exercise guaranteed. Learn the basics to many dances and you’ll be a pro. Move to the grooves and learn a new dance each week. Classes meet every Wednesday beginning from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Primary School Gym beginning July 9th and ending August 20th. 7 classes total . Cost of this class is $48.00 per student and there is a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15. Registration deadline is June 30th . Spaces are limited! Instructor is Linda Coolican
