Hiring Policies
Drug Free Work Place–The City of Poquoson is committed to maintaining a drug free work place. All job applicants are subject to pre-employment controlled substances testing and to other controlled substances and alcohol testing as specified by City policy. All safety sensitive and employees with commercial driver’s licenses are subject to random alcohol and controlled substances testing.
Driving Record Requirement–During the interview process, applicants for jobs that require a driver’s license will be required to submit their current official driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Accommodation of Persons With Disabilities–The City will make a reasonable effort to accommodate persons with disabilities in the application, testing and/or interview process. Persons with disabilities who require accommodation should contact the City Manager’s office at least three working days in advance of the need for accommodation.
Proof of Identify/Eligibility for Employment in the U.S.–All employees hired with the City will be required to provide proof of their identity and eligibility for employment in the United States. A driver’s license with a photo will provide proof of identity and either a social security card or birth certificate will provide proof of employment eligibility. A United States passport or resident alien registration card with a photo will provide proof of both identity and employment eligibility.
