Spring Youth 2019 Soccer

The recreation youth soccer league is now accepting registrations for the 2019 spring season. All teams are
co-ed. Youngest Players: Those able to participate in the U7 age division must currently be attending
Kindergarten. Those in Pre-K are not eligible to play. Coaches are usually parent volunteers.
Cost to play is $65.00.
Registration is due February 22, 2019
Additional $10.00 for non-residents. $5 sibling discount after first registered player.
Registration is taken on a first come, first served basis thru the deadline of February 22, 2019. Program #100S
The league will be divided as follows:
Division Ages End Date
U7 ages 5 and 6 not yet age 7 by May 31, 2019
U9 ages 7 and 8 not yet age 9 by May 31, 2019
U11 ages 9 and 10 not yet age 11 by May 31, 2019
U13 ages 11 and 12 not yet age 13 by May 31, 2019
U16 ages 13, 14, 15 not yet age 16 by May 31, 2019

All registrations are numbered as they are received. The only guarantee for children to play is for parents to coach. No special requests are accepted for team placements or carpools. There is no guarantee of game time or practice nights for players. If an insufficient number of children register or coaches cannot be secured for any age group, the fees will be refunded. Older age groups typically play games with surrounding military bases & recreational programs, both in Poquoson and other nearby locations.

If you would like to move a child up into an older age group this must be noted on the form at the time of registration and a special request form to do so must be completed. Children may only move up into an age division if they are at the eldest of their current age group. All registrations received after February 22 will be charged a $15 late fee and placed on a waiting list. There is no guarantee for placement on a team after the deadline or from the waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list a completed registration form and a check or credit card number must be provided. Avoid Panic!

Kickstart Soccer


Must be age 4 by April 1, 2019
Kickstart is a program designed for the soccer beginner player. This is the basic introduction to the game of soccer. It is not a soccer league, but a 5 week instruction & play/skill period for 45 minutes each week.
Cost: $55 per child. No sibling discount; additional $10 for non-residents.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
Dates: April 10, 17, 24, May 1 and May 8, 2019
5:30-6:15pm South Lawson Park
Instructor: Heather Deaver, Primary Physical Education Teacher. Cost includes beginner ball and t-shirt. Program #102 Location: South Lawson Park

Youth Soccer Coach Training

Have you ever wanted to coach a youth team, but felt that you need more knowledge, more specifics for
various age groups? Join the volunteer coaches training for soccer as you will gain skills for practice planning, team skills and drills, teaching rules of the game and more. This training will be held 2 evenings February 27 & 28 at 6:30pm. Lots of participation and hands-on activities will be part of the instruction. Contact Mel Insley at Community

Pixie Stix Field Hockey


Field Hockey for beginners! Ages 5-7 Girls.
4:00-4:45pm Dates: April 14, 28, May 5 May 19
This program is designed to teach introductory field hockey skills for young players. Learn proper techniques for stick maneuvers, teamwork, strategies of the game and most importantly have fun playing field hockey. Note: Must be 5 by the start of the program.
Registration for each new PIXIE player includes a correctly sized stick, a ball and a shirt.
Returning players will receive a ball and shirt only.
Instructor: Darcey Chiappazzi, Varsity Field Hockey Coach. Cost: $60 per player
Returning Pixie Players Cost: $40
All players must play with a mouth guard & shin guards each session. Parents provide this equipment.
Additional non-resident fee of $10 per player.
No sibling discount. Location: Turf Field behind PMS

Spring Field Hockey Play and Skills Clinic

Spring Youth Volleyball League


Ages 9-13 (Must be age 9 by April 1, 2019)
Learn the fundamentals of the game of volleyball, while enjoying basic game play experience. All
practices in Poquoson. Minimum of 24 players must register to run league & instruction.
Players who have played JV are not eligible
to participate in recreation league.
Specific practice and game times will be announced based on gym availability. Season runs from after Spring Break to approximately June 8. Volunteer coaches needed. Late fee of $15 applies after registration deadline. Cost per player: $65 Non-resident: $75
Deadline to register is March 29. A wait-list will be maintained only if we are able to accommodate late registration. Program #104

Spring Youth Volleyball Skills and Serving Clinic


Ages 9 and Up (Must be age 9 by April 1, 2019)

Poquoson Middle School Gym.
Cost is $35.00 residents/$45 non-residents.

Youth Tennis Lessons


Ages 7 and up. Boys & Girls
Learn the basics of the game of tennis. You’ll learn
serving, forehand, body position, and footwork.
Lessons held on Saturdays for 6 weeks.
Dates: March 16, 23, April 13, 20, May 11, 18
Location: PHS Tennis Courts.
Cost: $65 Residents Non-Residents $75

9-10am Intermediate Program #103A

Students must bring their own racquet. Wear
comfortable play clothes & tennis shoes.
Sundays will be the designated rain make-up day if
necessary. Each group lesson is limited to 12 kids.
Minimum of 6 needed.
