Poquoson Tennis Singles League


Wednesday evenings – 6:00-8:00pm
Starting week of September 26 thru November 14 Join us for a fun and recreational singles league for men, women and youth ages 14 thru Adult. Best 2 out of 3 sets with traditional tennis scoring. Come out for an evening of tennis fun. Balls and water will be provided.

Pistol Safety Course


Learn firearms safety, law and familiarization of handguns and ammunition, how to handle a weapon safely, and laws regarding use of firearms in self-defense. This one evening course  will cover many do’s and don’ts  for carrying a weapon for self defense.  As part of the course those students who wish to later apply for a concealed handgun permit may take a written test, and upon successful completion of the test,  a certificate will be provided that will allow you to apply for a Virginia Concealed Weapons Permit with the local court. No gun ownership required.   If you have a gun do not bring it to class until the instructor instructs you to do so. Class open to any age 21 or older. This course meets one evening. 
 Time: 6-9pm.

Instructor: Perry Bartels is a 22 year police veteran and firearms instructor. He is a certified instructor with the Virginia Department of of Criminal Justice Services. Must register 5 days in advance of the course.

Tai Chi


Looking for a non-aerobic form of exercise which will improve your balance, reduce stress, and improve flexibility? Tai Chi may be the exercise for you. We are offering the Introductory Tai Chi Form
(9 Movements) in a 7 week series of classes.
This Tai Chi form is designed for beginners but will help more advanced students as well. The class will also include meditative breathing and Qigong, a series of powerful Traditional Chinese medical exercises to help maintain overall health.
Participants should wear loose fitting clothes & good walking shoes. For adults. All fitness levels welcome.
Location: Odd Road Community Center. Classes will be held Monday evenings 4:30-5:30pm

Line Dancing Class


Ages 16 to Adult
Line Dancing– No partner needed! Plenty of exercise guaranteed and fun. Learn the basics to many dances and you’ll be a pro. Move to the grooves and enjoy a combination of music styles. Option of class on Tuesday Mornings or Tuesday Evenings. Class is 8 weeks.

Canvas Paint Project Using One Stroke Technique


Ages 10 to Adult
Learn to paint the Carolina Beach Scene. This design is perfect for canvas, glass, walls and furniture! This project involves multiple strokes and techniques in learning decorative painting.
Please bring a sketchbook (9x12 or larger), all other supplies provided.

Furniture Painting Workshop- A Flea Market Flip


Ages 13 to Adult
Turn trash to treasure and learn how to paint or refinish your furniture
into a beautiful and timeless piece. Learn about choosing paints, best paints for the job, and how to dry/wet distress the finish. Learn up to 3 different paint techniques. This course will also cover how to seal your work as well as how to use clear/dark waxes on furniture. All supplies will be provided and participants are encouraged to wear a smock or painting clothes so you can make your own samples to take home! Thursday October 4 6:30-8:30pm

Fall Pumpkin Door Hanger Paint Decor

Introduction to Watercolor


Ages 14 to Adult
Explore the ins and outs of watercolor's vivid colors and spontaneous direct brush strokes. Basic techniques include laying washes and reserving highlights
(both wet-on-wet and wet on dry techniques) through glazing and dry-brush. Basic color theory,
designing composition and building your painting up
from an initial sketch will be covered in the class.

Introduction to Pen & Ink Drawing


Ages 14 to Adult
Working with line drawings, we will build our designs from doodles and sketches to finished art pieces.
Exploring strokes, line consistency, pen control,
elements of shading, gradations, and techniques for
creating interesting textures including cross-hatching, stippling, and scribbling. Subject matter to include:
florals and botanicals, birds, and portraits.
