Youth Volleyball League
Ages 9-13 (Must be age 9 by October 1, 2017)Learn the fundamentals of the game of volleyball, while enjoying basic game play experience. All practices in Poquoson. Minimum of 24 players must register to run league & instruction. Specific practice and game times will be announced based on gym availability. Season runs from late October through Holiday Break in December. Late fee applies after registration deadline. Cost per player: $60 Non-resident: $70 Deadline to register is October 16. Late fee of $15 after October 16. with waiting list. If placed on waiting list placement is not guaranteed. Program #106
Youth Basketball League
Season Runs Early December 2017–Early March 2018 Boys and Girls Ages 6-18 Registration Deadline: NOVEMBER 17, 2017 Program #300 Registration Fee $70 Residents/ $80 Non-residents Players MUST REGISTER by the deadline to be guaranteed a spot for team placement. Players who sign up late are not guaranteed placement & will be put on a waiting list until a spot is available. A late fee of $15.00 per child will be charged after November 17, 2017. All players will be assigned teams through a placement and evaluation process. Attendance at this evaluation program is critical. Parents will be notified of the evaluation times following registration. Volunteer coaches are needed for the league in all age divisions. Coaches may only have 1 assistant per team. Players will be taken first come, first paid, as they register. Participation numbers are limited to the number of coaches available, and available gym space. The season runs from mid-December thru early March. Games begin in early January. Practices begin in early December following evaluations and team placement. Coaches will set practice times for teams. Practice nights and time requests will not be considered for team placement. Requests for specific practice times and/or coaches will not be honored. No special request for team placements are accepted- (carpools, friends, coaches, etc.)
Hoop It Up Basketball Ages 4-6
Together parent and child will work to learn passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. This program is not a league experience but an interactive skills program designed to teach the skills of basketball using fun games. Each player receives a junior basketball as part of the program. Open to Boys and Girls. Each player needs a parent present at each session ready to participate. Must be 4 by start of program. Indoor Field Hockey League
Poquoson Office of Community Recreation will be coordinating indoor field hockey teams for youth ages 6-14. Poquoson Community Recreation will be entering registered children into the Newport News Indoor Field Hockey League on teams that are coordinated by our office for Poquoson residents.
How to register: A parent/guardian must attend one of the 2 registration nights at the Municipal Building at 830 Poquoson Ave. at 7:00pm
Thursday, October 12 or Thursday, October 26 7pm. There will be no early option to register or late option. These two nights will cover the registration. Send a representative in your absence if you can’t make it. Program #114
Age divisions will be 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14. Age is determined by January 1, 2018. We will only make teams for the age divisions that we have enough to create a team of players. Practice will start Mid December, games begin January 6 thru March 2018 in Newport News. The parent meeting will include program overview, completion of health forms and waivers, and go over equipment requirements. Please bring payment to the meeting. Cost is $75.00 per player for residents. Non-resident registration will not be available until after October 28 on a space available basis only. *Because this program is in cooperation with another municipality the deadlines are strict & space is limited.
